Decker was just 17 when she caught the ear of an official from Big Yellow Dot Records. The label began selling her music to labels and artists. At the end of August, 2009 she launched her self-titled debut album under the name Jessie James. Jessie James was reasonably successful as it featured Wanted an album track that made it to in the Top 40 of the singles charts. However while Decker has always believed she was an artist from the country genre, The album was recorded and marketed with a broader audience in mind. Decker was adamant with the label for more control of her music after two of her singles fell. Her subsequent album, Boys in the Summer, was more country oriented. Decker's second album, which was announced in the form of Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records was shelved because Mercury was disappointed by the performance on three of her singles on the charts of country radio.
